AT&T to apply $5 credit to accounts of customers affected by massive cellular outage

AT&T is hoping $5 will smooth things over with customers whose service was affected throughout several states on Thursday, Feb. 22.

A statement on the companyโ€™s website said:

โ€œWe apologize for Thursdayโ€™s network outage. We recognize the frustration this outage has caused and know we let many of our customers down. We understand this may have impacted their ability to connect with family, friends, and others. Small business owners may have been impacted, potentially disrupting an essential way they connect with customers.โ€

The company went on to say that theyโ€™re reaching out to potentially impacted customers and automatically applying a credit to each of their wireless accounts equal to about the average cost of a day of full service.

A number of Americans experienced cellular outages on AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Verizon, T-Mobile and other service providers, according to data from Downdetector. AT&T had more than 73,000 outages around 9:30 a.m. ET, in locations including Houston, Atlanta and Chicago.
