The Friends of Fillmore Glen, a dedicated group supporting the beloved state park, have been awarded an $8,600 grant from Parks and Trails New York. This funding, set for use in 2024, will facilitate the purchase and installation of a pre-made storage shed, significantly enhancing the organization’s operational efficiency. Alongside the grant, the Friends will contribute $1,800 in matching funds, demonstrating their commitment to improving the park’s facilities and services.
This new storage shed will centralize the storage of various items used for community events such as I Love My Park Day, Fillmore Days, and the Fillmore Auto Show. Currently scattered across multiple locations, consolidating these resources will save time and improve organization for the volunteers who maintain and enrich the park’s offerings. The introduction of this shed is a step towards better inventory control and asset management, ensuring that the Friends of Fillmore Glen can continue their valuable work more effectively.
The Friends of Fillmore Glen are also preparing for a series of events in 2024, including the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the New York State Park system. Special activities at Fillmore Glen and parks statewide will mark this centennial, highlighting the importance of green spaces in enhancing New York’s health, economy, and quality of life. This grant not only supports the Friends’ immediate storage needs but also their ongoing efforts to commemorate and sustain the park’s natural beauty and community significance.
