ALBANY — Websites and obsessive fans following the current taping of the 20th season of the ABC dating competition series “The Bachelorette,” have listed one suitor whose name will be of note to Capital Region residents — Sean McLaughlin is a son of Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin.
Sean McLaughlin — who says he is a Florida resident — was given a shout-out Wednesday by the man who is considered the preeminent spoiler of “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” taping secrets, Reality Steve, who has a website and podcast. The clip of McLaughlin posted online featured a “Barbie Sing Off” competition, likely timed to promote “Barbie,” a movie based on the iconic doll that is coming out in July around the same time the episode is expected to air. Reality Steve said the episode will air July 10. The county executive is following Reality Steve on Twitter.
If Sean McLaughlin is on a group date, it means at the very least he made it past the first night of the show, which sees some 30 men vying for the bachelorette’s affections at a mansion near Los Angeles.
Producers largely keep contestants away from phones and computers during taping; McLaughlin’s cell phone went directly to voicemail when the Times Union reached out Thursday.
