The long-term weather forecast makes it look as though spring has arrived in Western New York almost a month early.
That is, unless you disregard what is expected to come our way Wednesday into Thursday.
A strong cold front is scheduled to sweep through the area Wednesday afternoon, plunging temperatures from the 60s to below freezing, causing a flash freeze.ย
“It will feel like two very different seasons ahead and behind this front, with multiple hazards possible,” the National Weather Service said in a tweet Monday morning.ย
Tuesday will see potentially record warm temperatures, with highs in the 60s and wind gusts up to 40 mph. Following a dry start to the day, rain with thunderstorms is expected through Wednesday morning.ย
Rain will change into widespread snow Wednesday evening, accompanied by strong westerly wind gusts up to 50 mph. Temperatures will hover in the 20s most of Thursday.
And then by Friday, temperatures are expected to start climbing again, and could again reach into the 60s on Sunday.
The warming temperatures continue to have an effect on parking regulations in the region.
Winter parking regulations along bus routes are over in the City of Buffalo. The parking regulations, which prohibit parking along city bus routes, were lifted as of 1:30 a.m. Friday until further notice.
Regulations usually remain active Nov. 15 through April 1. However, due to unseasonably warm weather, they were lifted early.
The Town of Tonawanda ended its winter parking ban earlier last week, and then Cheektowaga followed suit later in the week.
