A 37-year-old man was fatally shot in the head in front of a Brooklyn deli on Monday, police said.
The NYPD responded to a call of a man shot around 4:15 p.m. Monday near the corner of Franklin Avenue and Lincoln Place in Crown Heights, officials said. That’s where they found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. He was taken to Kings County hospital, where he later was pronounced dead, officials said.
Officers were seen investigating the scene of the shooting on Monday evening, with a portion of the sidewalk in front of a corner deli sectioned off from the public. The victim’s name was being withheld pending family notification, police said.
Jesse Marks, 31, lives across the street from the scene and said he was working from home when he heard a gunshot. He went to his window and saw a man laying on the ground with a wound to his head, Marks said.
โThis is the first time Iโve heard anything โ thatโs what especially alerted me to it โ this is the first time that sounded akin to a gunshot.” Marks told Gothamist.
But longtime neighborhood residents said it wasnโt that long ago that shootings were more common in the area.
No arrests had been made as of Monday night, and an investigation was ongoing, according to the authorities.
