The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory at 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday valid from Wednesday 2 p.m. until Thursday 7 a.m. for Tompkins and Cortland counties.
“West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected,” comments the weather service. “Gusty south to southwest winds will develop ahead of a cold front Wednesday afternoon. The front may be accompanied by sudden stronger wind gusts, with winds shifting to the west in its wake. Winds will remain strong and gusty well into the night, as much colder air also quickly moves into the area.”
“Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,” describes the weather service. “Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.”
Advance Local Weather Alerts is a service provided by United Robots, which uses machine learning to compile the latest data from the National Weather Service.
