Rain and fog dampen morning rush hour in New York City; NWS wind advisory

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Commuters are dealing with wet sidewalks and roads during the morning rush hour on Wednesday on Staten Island.

Visibility is reduced in some places on our borough, including on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

Rain that began on Tuesday likely will fall on and off throughout the day and into the evening on Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.com.

A wind advisory from 4 p.m. on Wednesday to 7 a.m. on Thursday means that the wind likely will pick up during the evening rush hour and overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds could blow steadily from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph, switching from southwest late in the afternoon, west at night and then northwest overnight into early Thursday morning.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” according to the National Weather Service. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Temperatures are in the balmy 50s with the mercury likely to peak at 61 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com.
