Former College of Saint Rose men’s basketball player Shane O’Dell, a Schalmont graduate, is transferring to Division I Stonehill of the Northeast Conference.
O’Dell, a 6-foot-6 sophomore guard/forward, entered the transfer portal in early March. Verbalcommits.com was first to report his commitment to Stonehill, which just completed its first season in the NEC after moving up from Division II.
O’Dell has two years of eligibility remaining.

O’Dell said he entered the portal mainly because he wanted to try Division I.
“That was pretty important to me,” he said. “I always felt like I could play at the Division I level and now I get the chance to prove it to myself that I can.”
O’Dell said Stonehill was his only visit. Led by coach Chris Kraus, the Skyhawks went 14-17 overall and 10-6 in the league in its introduction to the NEC. Stonehill was ineligible for the conference tournament or an NCAA Tournament bid because it is beginning its four-year transition to Division I.
“I’m ready to start winning and compete for a conference championship,” O’Dell said. “That’s my goal.”
