NYC weather: 3 storms, including Wednesday soaker, to deliver multiple inches of rain in coming days

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Following a festive weekend featuring mild temperatures and a green sea of parade-goers, the remainder of the week ahead looks to soak New York City with a trio of rainy systems.

Residents across the five boroughs experienced an overcast Tuesday morning with rain coming down on city streets. While the National Weather Service (NWS) expects this storm to deliver up to three-quarters of an inch, it only sets the stage for the days to come.

“The multiple rounds of rain will lead to travel delays with periodic increased flood risk in urban areas,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said.

Concern over the approaching systems has prompted the NWS to issue a hazardous weather outlook for the entirety of New York City. The outlook particularly draws attention to Wednesday’s storm, which could yield a “marginal to slight risk of excessive rainfall” and the potential for localized flash flooding.

THE FIRST SYSTEM: TUESDAY

With temperatures on Staten Island sitting at 43 degrees around 11 a.m., as reported by the Advance/SILive.com weather station, the day feels far different from Sunday’s unseasonable high of 70 degrees.

Accompanying this departure from mild, sunny days is a small, “tightly wound storm” that looks to continue delivering wet conditions through Tuesday afternoon, AccuWeather reports.

“Some periods of rain today, right into this evening. From there, the chances of rain pretty much diminish after 5 p.m. tonight or so. You could have a little drizzle or light stuff lingering out through the evening,” NWS Meteorologist Jim Connolly said.
