Erie County Medical Center has been awarded $500,000 in grant funding to aid the local community in its response to the ongoing opioid crisis, Erie County officials said.
Both ECMC’s Corporation for Occupational and Environmental Medicine and its Center for Hepatology Care were awarded $250,000 eachย to support community-based programming to Erie County residents.
According to officials, the programming focuses on prevention, education, harm reduction, and other aspects to combat the opioid crisis in Erie County. A wide array of services and programs aimed at preventing and managing substance use disorder will be funded through the grants from Erie County and the Erie County Department of Health.
Through the funding, the Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine will be able to expand its efforts to address the issue of opioids in the workplace. This initiative provides training aimed at increasing knowledge about opioids and reducing the stigma that may inhibit substance abusers from seeking help.ย ย
Additionally, the Center for Hepatology Care will be working on a community-wide approach with a focus of addressing the needs of criminal justice-involved persons and the needs of pregnant or parenting women and their families.
