The third-ranked William Smith lacrosse team cruised to a 14-5 victory over 23rd-ranked Cortland in a non-conference contest at Grady Field this afternoon. The Herons used an 8-1 run spanning the second and third quarters to pull away for their fourth victory of the season.
Seniors Maddie Montgomery (4g, 1a) and Allie McGinty (5a) shared game-high honors with five points each. Sophomore Hannah Evans added four goals. Sophomore Natalie Danielswon a game-high five draw controls. Montgomery, McGinty and first-year Janey Sypeck had two caused turnovers each. Junior Maura Smeader played all 60 minutes in goal and made three saves.
Cortland was led by Tori Cashman who had a goal and two assists. Amy Hoeffner won five draws and had two ground balls. Margaret Morgan played the first 45 minutes and made seven saves. Trinity Parks played the final 15 minutes and made two saves.

- Cortland scored back-to-back goals late in the frame to bring the Red Dragons with one. Isabella Dembinski and Nicole Iaposce scored the goals. Cashman assisted Dembinski’s woman-up goal. Iapoce’s goal was unassisted.
- That would be as close as Cortland would get as The Herons scored eight of the game’s next nine goals, including all three in the second quarter.
