To keep snowy roads from impeding the delivery of hot pizzas, Domino’s has awarded Buffalo and 19 other cities $25,000 grants to help pay for snowplowing.ย
Buffalo received a considerable number of nominations for the grant via plowingforpizza.com, an open call website where users nominate their city of choice by submitting their ZIP code and email address.
The Domino’s Plowing for Pizza grants are awarded based on a cluster of nominated ZIP codes surrounding a municipality that tends to get heavy snowfall. A Domino’s store must be present in the area, as well.ย
The grants are similar to previous Paving for Pizza grants awarded by Domino’s that helped repair potholes across 50 states.ย
“Plowing for Pizza is the sequel, in which Domino’s is looking to partner with towns across the country in need of snow removal or plowing assistance, so that we can help our customers get out to warm up with hot pizza, even in snowy weather,” the company’s website said. “We’re giving away a total of $500,000 across 20 towns in need of plowing assistance.”
Buffalo will also receive a winter-themed Domino’s Plowing for Pizza kit that includes winter hats, scarves, vehicle magnets, snow measuring stick and sign, and $200 in Domino’s gift cards for plow drivers.ย
During a conversation with The Buffalo News reporters and editors in February, Mayor Byron W. Brown had forewarned the possibility of a tax hike in the wake of extreme snowstorms.ย
โThis yearโs budget is going to be challenging. Thereโs absolutely no question about it,โ he said.ย
According to Brown, two mid-January snowstorms cost the city $6.6 million. By comparison, the 2022 blizzard cost the city $10 million, he said.ย
โIt was an expensive operation,โ Brown said of the 2024 storms.ย
