Ulster County expands its green fleet of vehicles

KINGSTON- Ulster County is well on its way to meeting its 2025 goal of turning 20 percent of its fleet of county-operated vehicles green, according to a just released report.ย  The report closely examines the countyโ€™s fleet inventory, implementation strategies, fuel use, and emissions information and makes recommendations about the countyโ€™s transition to zero-emission vehicles.

โ€œWe are excited to see that we are on track to reach our 2025 green fleet target and reduce harmful emissions, but we need to go even further,โ€ said County Executive Jen Metzger.ย  โ€œBeyond replacing fleet vehicles at the end of their useful life with zero-emissions alternatives, we must also look to reduce the size of the fleet and right-size vehicle purchases to Department needs.โ€

At the close of 2023, there were a total of 481 vehicles in the county fleet and during the year, 50 new vehicles were entered into service.ย  Of the 50 new vehicles, 22 met the countyโ€™s Green Fleet policy definition of green vehicles.

A total of 16.6 percent of the countyโ€™s fleet was composed of green vehicles at the close of 2023, well within reach of the 20 percent 2025 target.
