St. Patrick’s Day Parade along Forest Avenue: Where to dine, eat and drink on March 17

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This weekend brings us a second Forest Avenue parade on Sunday, March 17. This parade is in response to the “traditional” St. Patrick’s Parade, which bars LGBTQ+ groups from marching. That parade took place March 3.

For those looking to watch, eat or drink in the area, here are the nuts and bolts to know for this inaugural parade.

  • Parade step-off is at noon from Hart Boulevard.
  • The parade ends at Broadway.
  • The event is organized by the Forest Avenue Business Improvement District (BID).
  • Streets are closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some side streets will be closed with no entry between Hart and Broadway along Forest. Side streets will be closed around Hart Boulevard, including Gregg Place, Delafield Avenue, Elwood Place and Abbey Place. There will be no access to streets between University Place and Sharon Avenue.

The four asterisked spots are arguably the most premium spots to watch any Forest Avenue procession.

New Diamond Forest, 356 Forest Ave. No place to sit but there’s a host of eats with which to walk around from dumplings handmade daily to egg and spring rolls.

*Jody’s Club Forest, 371 Forest Ave. There will be a private party at the restaurant in the morning. Otherwise the bar and tavern are open to the public throughout the day with food and beverage for sale.

Cafe Milano, 401 Forest Ave. Pasta, parm and a solid New York slice live at the corner parlor with a dining room in which to sit.

Better Health Gourmet, 400 Forest Ave. Not open on Sundays, so come back for smoothies and salubrious fare any other day.

Kettle Black, 415 Forest Ave. There will be no food served, only the bar will…
