NEW WINDSOR- A portion of Washington Lake Reservoir crested its banks on Wednesday afternoon causing water to spill over into nearby properties.
According to New Windsor officials, around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday workers from the City of Newburgh shut down Little Britain Road (Route 207) to conduct emergency flood mitigation activities.ย Workers could be seen pumping water from the portion of the reservoir on the South side of the road to the main portion of the reservoir on the North side of the road.ย The smaller portion of the lake was visibly higher than the larger portion and almost reached the height of the roadway.
A drainage ditch running through a group of nearby residential properties was filled with water that came overtop the bank of the reservoir.ย The water continued through the properties finally draining into a series of state Department of Transportation culvert pipes running under Route 300.
New Windsor officials said that a section of the road between the intersection of Route 300 and 207 and Clarkview Road would remain closed until Thursday morning.
