Significant shrinkage

Town of Tonawanda residents are seeing less of Joe Emminger these days, and it’s not because he’s neglecting his duties as town supervisor.

The 6-foot, 5-inch Emminger has lost 55 pounds over the last 13 months, going from 290 to 235 pounds today โ€“ “freshman year of college weight,” as he put it.






The 64-year-old said his endocrinologist last February recommended he start taking Mounjaro, a medication used in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes that also leads to weight loss.

Emminger has been diabetic for about 20 years and on insulin for a dozen years.

He was able to gradually reduce his insulin injections from four times a day until, by about October, he no longer needed them at all.

Emminger said he has more energy now, he’s sleeping better and he even thinks his vision has improved.

With all of the weight loss, he’s had to get some new clothes and have his suits taken in.

He quipped there’s just one thing the Mounjaro couldn’t help with:

“It did not put hair on my head.”

The quips were flying more than usual at the Buffalo Planning Board this week.

After seeing how she benefited from dancing while growing up, Salena Leonard decided she wants to open up a dance studio on Abbott Road in South Buffalo, not only to offer different experiences for people, but also to keep them occupied.

“I’ve been dancing for 14 years,” she told board members. “For me, growing up, it kept me out of trouble and fit, so I want to bring this to the community, for all ages.”
