A series of New York City subway shootings in early 2024 prompted Gov. Kathy Hochul to order National Guard members into busy stations to create a sense of security. Hereโ€™s a timeline of shootings in the cityโ€™s transit system so far this year.

Rockaway Avenue station in Brooklyn

Jan. 14: Richard Henderson, 45, was fatally shot aboard a Manhattan-bound 3 train after trying to intervene in a dispute over noise. The suspect is still at large.

Mount Eden Avenue station in the Bronx

Feb. 12: An argument between two groups of teenagers aboard a northbound 4 train spiled onto the platform. At least two people opened fire. One person, an innocent bystander, was killed and five others were injured. Police arrested two boys, who were 14 and 16 years old, in connection with the shooting.

182nd-183rd Streets station in the Bronx

Feb. 23: Police said a โ€œ3-on-1โ€ fight aboard a southbound D train ended with William Alvarez, 45, being fatally shot. The NYPD arrested three suspects.

Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets station in Brooklyn

March 14: Dajuan Robinson, 36, was shot in the head with his own gun after allegedly instigating a fight. Police said Younece Obuad, 32, managed to wrestle Robinsonโ€™s gun away during a fight on an A train at 4:50 p.m.
