In the early hours of March 16 a New York State Trooper shot a 54-year-old man in Marathon, Cortland County, after being called to check on the man’s welfare. The incident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. at 162 Tim Hill Road, where the man, experiencing a mental health crisis and armed with a gun, reportedly aimed the weapon at the officers.
The troopers were responding to a Cortland County 911 dispatch request to assist the man, who was then shot during their attempt to make contact. Immediate medical aid was provided on the scene before the man was taken to Wilson Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition. Thankfully, no other injuries were reported in the incident.
This ongoing investigation has the New York State Police working closely with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department and Marathon Ambulance.
