Renegades expansion continues at ballpark before home opener (VIDEO)

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Construction projects at Heritage Financial Park, the home of the Hudson Valley Renegades minor league baseball team are being done at a fast pace in anticipation of being ready for the start of the 2024 season, just a few weeks away.  Hudson Valley Renegades Director of Public Relations Joe Vasile gave Mid-Hudson News an update on all of the work on Friday.

The Renegades are the High-A affiliate of the storied New York Yankees.

With significant investment from Dutchess County, a new artificial turf field has replaced the one that was at the end of its life expectancy.  The new turf, according to Vasile, is the same type in place in the major leagues.  “It looks fantastic,” he said, adding that players from the local high schools and colleges that use the field this year are going to feel the benefits of the “state of the art” field covering.

In left field, a new building has surfaced, again with county dollars, that includes a new clubhouse for the Renegades, batting tunnels, weight room, and other athletic necessities required to bring the stadium in compliance with Major League Baseball (MLB).  Additionally, the facility includes additional seating for ticket holders, luxury suites, and an event-type space that will be available for rental year-round.

Joking about the rental space, Vasile conceded that it would be a great venue for a baseball-themed wedding, noting that Renegades Vice-president Rick Zolzer, is licensed to perform wedding ceremonies, making it possible for a wedding to be held from ceremony to reception at Heritage Financial Park.

The Renegades will play their home-opener on April 16 at Heritage Financial Park when they take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds at 6:30 pm.  Schedule and ticket information can be found here.
