Roofing contractor conned Grahamsville couple cops say

MONTICELLO- The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Liberty man in connection with a contractor larceny scam.  Police say the man collected money for a roofing job but never started the work.

David Gizinski, 37, of Gizinski Construction, LLC was arrested on February 16th and charged with felony grand larceny after police say he received $13,656.38 from a Grahamsville couple as a 50 percent down payment for a roofing job in November 2023.  After making the down payment, the victims were unable to contact Gizinski.
Sullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff warned residents to beware of scammers and urged consumers to conduct research on contractors before making full or partial payment.
“Do your research, look at internet reviews and social media to see what other people’s experiences have been with a contractor that you are thinking of hiring,” Schiff said.  “If a contractor wants full payment in advance or asks you to give them a positive review before they even start the job, that’s a red flag.”
Gizinski was arraigned before Neversink Town Justice Michael Scagnelli and released on his own recognizance in accordance with the state’s bail reform law.  He is due back in the Town of Neversink Court on March 19th.
Sheriff Schiff is asking anyone who believes they may be a victim of Gizinski to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 845-794-7100.
