SCHENECTADY – In a one-week span last month, Schenectady police said they responded to a slew of calls for shots fired, recovered illegal handguns and investigated damaged cars and buildings.
Among the highlights: On March 21, officers responded to Catherine Street and Locust Avenue for the report of shots fired. At the scene, evidence technicians recovered shell casings and a vehicle was found to be struck, as well as two houses. As of the month’s end, no arrest had been made, and the incident remains under investigation.
On March 22, officers responded to Eastern Avenue and University Place where they located shell casings and a building struck. No arrest has been made as yet.
On March 23, officers responded to the 700 block of Eastern Avenue to find shell casings and a vehicle struck. A youth was charged with weapon possession and reckless endangerment counts.Â
On March 27, officers responded to Ellis Hospital for the report of a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. He was shot while driving his vehicle in the vicinity of Strong and Hulett streets. Officers found a shell casing. The incident remains under investigation.
On March 28, the Schenectady County Street Crimes Task Force, with the help of investigators assigned to the district attorney’s office located a suspect near Phillip and Thompson streets with an active warrant. The suspect ran off but was soon taken into custody and found with a loaded handgun and a plastic bag containing fentanyl pills. The 19-year-old from Schenectady was arrested on several weapon and drug charges, as well as first-degree assault and resisting arrest.Â
Also on March 28, the County Street Crimes Task Force spotted a man in the Hulett and State streets area known to have an outstanding warrant. They tried to stop him but he fled before being taken into custody…
