The number of rapes throughout Queens continued to climb during the 28-day period from Feb. 16 to Mar. 17, compared to the same period of time last year, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD Monday. Felony assaults also rose during this period of time, while burglaries declined slightly.
Throughout the course of the 28-day period, reported rapes in northern Queens increased 91.7%, from 12 in 2023 to 23 in 2024. At the same time, felony assaults went up 11.6%, from 189 in 2023 to 211 in 2024. Burglaries, meanwhile, fell 7.5%, from 160 to 148.
The 104th and 114th Precincts each experienced the most significant increase in rapes across northern Queens. In the 104th Precinct, which covers Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth and Middle Village, reported cases rose from zero last year to four this year. The 114th Precinct, which covers Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Jackson Heights, saw reported cases jump from two last year to six this year. The 114th Precinct also had the biggest increase in felony assaults reported across northern Queens, from 32 last year to 45 this year.
The 109th Precinct, which covers Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Whitestone and Bay Terrace, experienced the deepest drop in burglaries across northern Queens. Reported cases there fell from 46 last year to 30 this year.
In southern Queens, rapes increased 157.1% during the 28-day period, from 7 in 2023 to 18 in 2024. At the same time, felony assaults increased 23.6%, from 178 in 2023 to 220 in 2024. Burglaries ended up declining 18.6%, from 86 in 2023 to 70 last year.
The 107th Precinct, which covers Cunningham Heights, Hilltop Village and Fresh Meadows, had the biggest jump in rape cases. Reported cases there went from zero last year to five this year.
The 101st Precinct, which oversees Far Rockaway and Bayswater, saw the largest increase in felony assaults across southern Queens. Reported cases there spiked from 8 last year to 29 this year.
