Buffalo Bills add ball hawk with second most defensive TDs since 2021 (5 things to know)

The Buffalo Bills hosted Mike Edwards on a free agent visit and signed him shortly thereafter.

Edwards, 27, joins the Bills after stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. In Buffalo, Edwards should be penciled in as a starter opposite Taylor Rapp. That could change following the draft, but Edwards has a great opportunity to see significant reps in 2024.

Following the signing, here is what you need to know about Buffaloโ€™s new safety.

Bills had previous interest

Buffalo did their due diligence on Edwards coming out of Kentucky. Erik Turner of Cover1 reported that the Bills had an hour long meeting with Edwards at the Senior Bowl in 2019.

Former third round pick

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would select Edwards in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft (Pick 99). Edwards would play four seasons in Tampa Bay (2019-2022) before joining the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023.

Has won Super Bowls with his first two teams

Edwards is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He was part of the Buccaneersโ€™ Super Bowl LV team and the Chiefsโ€™ LVIII squad. Bills fans can only hope that Edwards keeps that streak alive with Buffalo.

Can be used in a variety of ways

Edwardsโ€™ versatility was on display in Kansas City. He lined up as a box defender, slot corner and free safety for the Chiefs.

Ball hawk

Edwards is no stranger to big plays. Since 2021, only DaRon Bland has scored more defensive touchdowns than Edwards. In an interview with Maddy Glab of BuffaloBills, com, Edwards predicted he would add two scores to that total in 2024.
