Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reported a chimney fire at a residence in the town of Romulus on March 19. The fire, which occurred around 3:03 p.m. at 6950 State Route 96A, was promptly addressed by deputies following a report from homeowners Timothy and Theresa Warne.
Four fire departments, including Ovid, Romulus, Lodi, and Interlaken, quickly responded to the scene, with Ovid Fire Department taking command. The firefighters managed to extinguish the fire within approximately 20 minutes, determining that the cause was a buildup of creosote within the chimney walls.
Despite the swift response, the fire resulted in an estimated ,000 in damages. Fortunately, the Warne family had insurance coverage for their home, mitigating the financial impact of the incident. The collaborative effort of the responding fire departments highlighted the community’s effective emergency response capabilities.
