Pride Parade returns June 2 to Elmwood Avenue

Get your Pride flags ready.

Buffalo’s annual Pride Parade along Elmwood Avenue will be held on June 2, organizers announced on Thursday.

The parade, which features colorfully decorated floats and costumed marchers, will be followed the same day by the Pride Festival at Canalside. The two events celebrating the LGBTQ+ community typically draw thousands of revelers to Elmwood Avenue and Canalside.

Organizers also announced that they’ve changed the name from Buffalo Pride Week to Buffalo Pride to better recognize LGBTQ+ Pride happenings throughout June and year-round.

The parade and festival are hosted by Evergreen Health Foundation, an affiliate of Evergreen Health, and sponsored by Evergreen Health and M&T Bank.

Registration to participate in the parade opened on Thursday. Single marchers may register and march for free. Organizations who wish to participate agree to pay an entrance fee of $50 to $250. The money is used to offset parade expenses such as insurance, security, and supplies. Any profits from the parade and festival will be donated to the Pride Center of Western New York

“The outpouring of support from the community during the Buffalo Pride Parade and Festival provides funding for vital resources and services the Pride Center of Western New York offers,” Kelly Craig, the center’s executive director, said in a statement. “We thank all our community partners who support our mission, and we look forward to both signature events to celebrate our peers. Now’s the time to celebrate what makes us all unique!”

The theme of Buffalo Pride 2024 is “Now’s the Time.”

The parade line-up will begin at 8 a.m. at Buffalo State University. Step off is at 11 a.m. at Elmwood and Forest avenues, and paraders will proceed along Elmwood for about 2 miles to Allen Street, in the heart of Buffalo’s Allentown neighborhood.
