City Parks Foundation to host free youth track meet on Saturday

The City Parks Foundation, in partnership with the New York Road Runners, is set to host a free youth track meet on Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The foundationโ€™s โ€œPlay Sportsโ€ program spawned the inaugural event last year, which is open to children ages six through 17.

The meet will feature friendly heats in the 55M hurdles, 200M dash, shot put, long jump and more. The NYRR Mobile Unit will also be on hand, providing additional activities and games in between events.

โ€œWe are thrilled to partner with City Parks Foundation and provide an opportunity to get New York City kids active,โ€ said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of NYRR. โ€œOur goal at NYRR is to make running, fitness, and wellness accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, and the Winter Track Meet is the perfect way to introduce New York City youth to the sport of running.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to partner with New York Road Runners to bring our Winter Track Meet back for our young athletes,โ€ said Mike Silverman, Director of Sports for City Parks Foundation. โ€œThis event is a great opportunity to re-engage our program participants from last year, and introduce competitive running to kids of all ages at a world-class, indoor facility. We are grateful to NYRR for their support to make this event possible.โ€
