NYPD: Man shot with his own gun on A Train could face weapons charges

NYPD officials announced Friday morning that the man shot in the subway system with his own gun last week will face charges – if he survives his injuries.

Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Dajuan Robinson would be charged with criminal weapons possession if he recovers from the four gunshot wounds he sustained during a fight with passenger Younece Obuad on a crowded A train last week.

Robinson was seen on video pulling the gun out of his jacket as the altercation with Obuad escalated. Off camera, police said Obuad was able to get the gun away from Robinson, and shot him instead, as the train pulled into the Hoyt Schermerhorn station.

Police said Robinson’s injuries were extensive: two gunshot wounds to the head, one to the chest, and one to the torso, along with two stab wounds in the back inflicted by a woman aboard the train who so far has not been identified.

Officials said she and Obuad knew each other and got on the A train together at the Broadway Junction Station but it’s unclear if she would be charged.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office decided not to charge Obuad with a crime for now, saying he appeared to be acting in self-defense.

Robinson was still intubated as of Friday morning.
