MONTICELLO – Sullivan County oversight of the Care Center at Sunset Lake, the county nursing home operated by a contract company, has come into question by the chairwoman of the county legislature’s oversight committee.
The issue came to light last Thursday when a county resident complained about one of the two elevators being out of commission and the other one working intermittently when he went to visit his mother, who is a resident at the facility. Staff at the facility also wrote a letter to legislators, which was read aloud at the county’s last Health & Human Services Committee meeting about concerns they have about staffing, conditions, and care at the facility.
Committee Chairwoman Catherine Scott expressed concern over the overall monitoring of the center by the county.
“As the chair of health and human services, I don’t feel there has been adequate oversight of this facility, at least not since my time has there been adequate oversight,” she said.
As for the specific elevator issues, county administration said they are working on having them repaired and maintained better.
