ROTTERDAM — A fire broke out Saturday morning in the new training facility and garage being constructed at Rotterdam Fire District 2’s firehouse on Curry Road.
According to a Facebook post by the volunteer company, a passerby reported smoke coming from the building, located at the rear of the firehouse. Firefighters found a fire had broken out in the attic. Efforts to battle the fire from the inside were thwarted by the building’s lightweight construction, which intensified the fire’s spread. But firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze shortly after arriving to the scene.
No one was injured, and a cause has yet to be determined. Rotterdam Fire District 2 couldn’t immediately be reached Sunday morning for comment.
