A police officer and a civilian were shot during a traffic stop in Queens on Monday evening, the NYPD said.
Officials said the officer made the stop at 1919 Mott Ave. in Far Rockaway at 5:48 p.m. when they began exchanging gunfire with the civilian. Both the officer and the civilian were in surgery on Monday evening, police spokesperson Carlos Nieves said. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Mayor Eric Adams was scheduled to visit the hospital where the officer was being treated, according to City Hall. A press conference was scheduled for shortly after 8 p.m. at Jamaica Hospital, Nieves said.
