STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A new map has been unveiled on the data.ny.gov website, revealing the locations and statuses of “proximity protected” weed shops across the state.
The Proximity Protected Locations for Adult-Use Retail Dispensaries & Registered Organizations Map, which you can access here, displays active, pending and inactive licenses for shops. You can filter the map to your city and/or zip code, in addition to picking the shop’s license status and type.
What does it mean when a location is proximity protected? According to the cannabis.ny.gov website, “The proposed locations have been afforded proximity protection because the locations have been reviewed by the Office [of Cannabis Management] and have been found compliant with all distancing and proximity requirements until a final determination is made on the corresponding application.”
As for the active, inactive and pending statuses, data.ny.gov defines each as such:
- Active: An active license
- Inactive: A license that is expired, forfeited or revoked
- Pending: An application for a cannabis dispensary that is afforded proximity protection but not fully licensed
