MONTICELLO- Monticello’s new police chief Jay Corley says residents can expect to see more officers on the streets under his administration. Corley was recently installed as chief after serving for 27 years in several roles in the department and has big plans to improve the way the police department interacts with the public.
“This is an evolving community and Sullivan County is changing from what it was when I started here 27 years ago,” said Corley. “I just want to be a support to the community by being the chief of police and showing them that we can move forward through community policing.
Corley said that he believes one of the ways to improve public safety and the relationship between the police department and the community is by placing more officers on the streets. Corley acknowledged that leading the department would not be easy, but said he was up to the challenge.
I know this community, I walked these streets night and day throughout my career. I love this community, it’s just a great community,” Corley concluded.
