Police say they fatally shot a man in the early hours of Saturday after he refused to drop a knife he’d pulled on someone in Corona, Queens.
The man was in a dispute with a woman at around 4 a.m. Saturday near the corner of 103rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue, NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey told reporters during a briefing later that morning.
Two officers assigned to patrol a stretch of Roosevelt Avenue with abundant nightlife โrepeated commandsโ for the man to drop the knife which he’d held towards the woman, Maddrey said.
โThe male doesn’t listen, the officers use the taser. The taser does not work,โ Maddrey said during the briefing. โThe officers give further commands and then discharged their weapons.โ
The man, who was not publicly identified by police, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Itโs unclear what his relationship was to the woman.
