The New York Mets (16-17) suffered a second straight loss to the Tampa Bay Rays (16-18), falling 3-1 on Saturday night at Tropicana Field.
The game was tied at one entering the eighth inning, but Adam Ottavino walked back-to-back hitters with the bases loaded, and that was the difference.
Christian Scott made his Major League debut for the Mets, allowing one run over 6.2 innings, but didn’t get much run support.
Starling Marte drove in the lone run with an RBI single in the first inning and had two of the team’s six hits.
Box Score
The Mets will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. Luis Severino will take the ball for New York.
