Three years after joining WNYT, Christina Talamo has been promoted to weekday morning meteorologist at NewsChannel13. Talamo replaces Neal Estano, who left WNYT in March.
Talamo is familiar to viewers of the NBC affiliate, including those who tune in mornings: She’s been working the Wednesday through Sunday morning shift for several years. This promotion has her on-air from 5 to 7 a.m. Monday-Friday.
“Christina’s an incredibly talented meteorologist,” said Michael Raffaele, news director at WNYT/WNYA in a news release. “She’s dedicated to her craft and has grown significantly in her time with us. She’s deserving of this new position, and we’re excited to help her continue to grow.”
Talamo recently won an Emmy for her work at the station. Shortly after joining the station in 2020, she teamed up with her colleagues to create “The #FirstWarningExperience.” She, along with fellow NewsChannel13 meteorologist Reid Kisselback, earned an Emmy for that initiative.
The Long Island native and University at Albany alumnus said she’s wanted to be a meteorologist since she was 7. Those dreams, she said, came to fruition when she accepted a position at WNYT, joining experienced meteorologists, Bob Kovachick, Paul Caiano and Estano. Kovachick retired in 2022 and Caino was promoted to chief meteorologist earlier this year.
“I have been so fortunate to start my career here at WNYT and have the opportunity to work with and learn from a team of such talented meteorologists,” Talamo said in the news release, “It was an honor and a privilege to work weekday mornings with Neal Estano these last couple of years, and I’m excited to continue to bring the best weather coverage to our viewers in this place that I call home.”
Talamo appears with Faith King and Chris Onorato on the station’s weekly morning news…
