The world’s largest rubber duck is coming to an amusement park in Westchester County, just outside of New York City, this weekend.
The 61-foot, 15.5-ton Mama Duck – as well as her 10-foot-tall baby duckling named Timmy – will hang out at Playland’s Beach, in Rye, N.Y., from Friday through Sunday.
“What I hear a lot from our fans is that coming to see the duck is a once in a lifetime experience,” Craig Samborski, the owner of the world’s largest rubber duck, told Gothamist on Thursday. “It’s very rewarding, it’s very cool and people love taking their picture with it.”
The event producer from Minnesota told Gothamist that he built the bird after being dared by a friend – and knocking back a few beers. He said he believed the world’s largest rubber duck would make for an incredible PR stunt.
“It’s more than a full time business now running the duck,” Samborski said.
It’ll be the second time that the monstrous bird – which travels from California to Canada – makes a summer pit stop in Westchester County.
New Yorkers who make the trek to Playland, which can be accessed by public transit including roundtrip ferry service, can expect to catch other attractions at the amusement park this weekend. This includes celebrating the 95th birthday of the Dragon coaster, ferry tours and a fireworks display on Friday and Saturday evenings.
After stopping in New York, Mama Duck and Timmy will then travel to Tulsa, Okla. The adventures can be followed on social media.
