Syracuse men’s soccer gets blown out by No. 3 Clemson

Syracuse men’s soccer (6-6-3, 1-4-2 ACC) fell 6-1 against No. 3 Clemson (10-2-2, 5-2-0 ACC) in their final away match of the regular season on Friday night at Historic Riggs Field.

The Tigers opened the scoring quickly, securing a 1-0 lead on their first shot in the second minute. Syracuse’s Michael Acquah received a red card after a video review in the 15th minute, reducing the Orange to 10 players for the rest of the game. Clemson capitalized on the advantage, adding three more goals in the 25th, 30th, and 33rd minutes for a 4-0 lead.

Syracuse responded in the 36th minute when Ezra Widman earned and converted a penalty kick, bringing the score to 4-1 at halftime. Clemson quickly answered with a goal just two minutes into the second half, widening their lead to 5-1. They then capped the scoring with a sixth goal in the 63rd minute, securing the victory.

Widman’s goal marked his second of the season, while Jason Smith made his second appearance, recording a save. Andre Cutler-DeJesus played the full 90 minutes for the 11th time this season. Syracuse and Clemson are now tied with six wins each in their series.
