ALBANY — A 20-year-old man was convicted of murder late Monday in the killing of Chyna Forney, a city high school student shot to death during a surge of violence that upended the city two years ago.
Alvin Foy, 20, of Albany, was convicted of second-degree murder, attempted murder and weapons charges.
Foy and Jahmere Manning, 20, of Albany, were charged with murder in Forney’s killing. Manning pleaded guilty last year to charges of murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Forney, an 18-year-old student at Albany Leadership Charter High School For Girls, was found lying on Essex Street on May 3, 2021.
Officials at the school described Forney as a bubbly girl who was just weeks away from graduating. She was one of nine people killed in the first half of the year, and one of three people felled by bullets intended for others.
The three killed were Sharf Addalim, a store clerk who died outside the shop where he worked; Shanita Thomas, killed in a crowd on Central Avenue; and Chyna Forney, 18, a student at Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls.
The violence prompted an anti-violence march in the city and vows to curb crime.
Foy and Manning also were accused of shooting a man in March 2021.
