Warmer weather is on the way for Greater Capital Region
Following rain and temperatures hovering around the 50s, the Capital Region could get a taste of summer next week. The coming days are predicted to be clear and dry, with highs in the 80s by Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
“That’s definitely above normal,” said Brian Frugis, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany. “We’re looking at almost 20 degrees above normal by the end of the week.”
Highs are predicted to be in the mid to upper 60s Monday and Tuesday, reaching the 70s by Wednesday. Albany is expected to see a high near 80 Thursday and 82 Friday.
Highs this time of year are normally in the mid to upper 50s, but it’s not unheard of to see higher temperatures, with a few records even approaching 90, Frugis said.
Frugis noted dry weather can increase risk for wildfires, and that a state burn ban currently remains in effect. He said warmer weather could impact plant growth, but frost conditions could still continue into May.
“We’ll have to see how the rest of the spring plays out,” he said.
