The Buffalo Sabres have two games left in the regular season and will be without one of their best defensive players.
Head coach Don Granato told reporters Thursday that Mattias Samuelsson has been shut down for the remainder of the season because he has been playing through an injury, and the team is uncomfortable with him continuing to play.
Samuelsson played a massive role in helping the Sabres make a playoff push. The 23-year-old defenseman scored just two goals and tallied eight assists, but Buffalo was 33-18-4 when he was in the lineup.
The Sabres final home is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Ottawa Senators.
