The blaze early Friday morning at a home on Van Vranken Avenue is under investigation
SCHENECTADY – A fire early Friday morning at a two-family residence in the Goose Hill neighborhood displaced 15 people and sent two of them to the hospital, Fire Chief Don Mareno said.
He said heavy smoke was coming from the rear of the home on Van Vranken Avenue when fire crews got there at 1:30 a.m.
One person was taken to Ellis Hospital and the other to Albany Medical Center Hospital, both with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
He said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in about 45 minutes and keep it to the back area of the dwelling.
The fire is under investigation and the local Red Cross chapter is assisting those who are temporarily displaced.
