Woman falsely claimed workers compensation benefits for travel to and from a local YMCA for purported “aquatic therapy.”
ALBANY — A Watervliet woman pleaded guilty Friday to defrauding the U.S. Department of Labor worker’s compensation program, authorities said.
Eunice Ting, 69, admitted to filling out forms between December 2013 and March 2020 seeking reimbursement for travel that never occurred, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Specifically, Ting falsely claimed workers compensation benefits for medically related travel to and from a local YMCA for purported “aquatic therapy” when she had not received any such therapy and did not travel to the YMCA as claimed. In total, she received a total of $26,983 from the Department of Labor because of her fraudulent submissions, officials said.
Ting is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 24. She faces a maximum of five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of up to three years. Ting has also agreed to pay full restitution.
