ALBANY – A Schenectady woman is facing animal cruelty charges after an investigation into an abandoned dog earlier this month in the Pine Bush Preserve, Albany police said Tuesday.
On the afternoon of April 13, officers responded to Pine Bush Preserve near New Karner and Old State roads after getting a report about an abandoned dog. They said they found a pit bull mix dog tied to a tree without food or water with temperatures in the high 80s.
City animal control responded and took the dog to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society where the dog received medical care. The dog remains at the shelter where she is now healthy.
Investigators identified a 33-year-old woman as a suspect and determined she drove to Albany April 13 and directed a 14-year-old girl to leave the car and tie the dog to a tree. This was done in the presence of her 12-year-old daughter who was in the car, police said.
The woman was charged with animal cruelty, abandonment of animals and endangering the welfare of a child and will be arraigned May 9.
