ALBANY — An investigation into a shots-fired incident Monday led to two arrests, Albany police said.
Detectives were investigating reports of shots fired just before 6 p.m. near Madison Avenue and Ontario Street. No injuries were reported. Shortly afterward, police stopped a 20-year-old Troy woman as she was leaving an Ontario Street home and found a 9mm handgun without a serial number, a “ghost gun,” in her bag, Officer Steven Smith said.
Police also stopped an Albany man, 20, outside the house but he ran from police when questioned about prior warrants, Smith said. One warrant was for petit larceny after he met two people in July 2021 in Albany to sell an iPhone, but instead stole $150 from them without providing a phone, police said. He also had an active warrant from Pennsylvania.
After the man was apprehended, he was found with cocaine in his pants pocket, Smith said.
The two suspects, who are acquainted, were arraigned. The woman was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies. The man was charged in multiple separate cases, including the warrant, misdemeanors of petit larceny, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance. A conference date was scheduled for May 18 in city court, officials said. He was jailed.
