O&R & South Orangetown Rotary share the power of words

PEARL RIVER- The South Orangetown Rotary Club and Orange & Rockland (O&R) presented dictionaries to over 200 third graders at the Cottage Lane Elementary School last week.

The presentation was part of the Rotaryโ€™s ongoing effort to support educational projects in the community.ย  O&R donated $400 to help make the project a success.

โ€œEvery third grader in the district gets his or her own dictionary as part of the South Orangetown Rotary Clubโ€™s Literacy Project,โ€ said the Clubโ€™s Dictionary Project Coordinator Bruce Woolley.

O&Rโ€™s Regional and Community Affairs Manager Trish Austin said, โ€œWords are the keys to everyday life, happiness and success.ย  Those keys can help open up the whole new world for these students.โ€

She added, โ€œMark Twain once said, โ€™The difference between the right word and almost the right word is like the difference between lightning and the lightning bug.โ€™ย  These dictionaries are packed with all the words.ย  It will be one of your livesโ€™ great pleasures to find just the right ones.โ€
