Newark Valley fatal car accident involved pedestrians

A vehicle struck multiple pedestrians Wednesday in Newark Valley, resulting in at least one fatality, according to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.

Details are sparse, but the crash occurred on state Route 38 near the south end of Brown Road in the Town of Newark Valley, the sheriff’s office said.

There is no word yet on how many people were involved or how many casualties there were.

State Route 38 between Brown Road and Wilson Creek Road was closed around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, and reopened around 7:25 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

This is the second serious motor vehicle crash the sheriff’s office has handled this week in Tioga County.

On Monday, two people were seriously injured in a head-on, two-vehicle collision in the Town of Spencer.

That crash took place on state Route 96 and both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by emergency responders.

At last word, both men, whose names were not released, were in critical condition at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office said more information about the Newark Valley crash would be released as soon as possible.
