Even as Kennedy Boisvert continues to achieve more and more during a varsity softball career at Hoosick Falls that is already deep into a third season as a freshman, the standout pitcher does not believe she is at her best yet. Last week, Cambridge and Greenwich certainly felt what Boisvert had to offer was quite sufficient.
The Panthers opened their week against Cambridge and Boisvert not only tossed a no-hitter, she struck out 18 batters to surpass the 500 mark in her career. She followed up by limiting Greenwich, winners of the 2022 Class C state championship, to just two hits and registered 16 strikeouts in a 2-1 triumph in Wasaren League play.
After the win against Cambridge, Boisvert posed for a photo with her teammates holding a sign saying “Miss 500 strikeouts.”
“It caught me by surprise, for sure,” Boisvert said regarding reaching the milestone. “I was just over the moon. I was so happy.”
For her efforts, Boisvert has been selected as the Times Union’s Girls’ Athlete of the Week for the period April 24-30.
After producing a stellar season in 2022 that landed Boisvert a Times Union Small School second-team selection for the second straight year, she spent her summer months competing for the Capital District Fusion travel team.
Asked if there were aspects of her game she looked to improve upon during those summer months, Boisvert said, “Definitely my mental game. You always have to improve that. Last year, I read an article about my (CD Fusion) teammate Liv DeCitise and she talked about that you can’t pitch in fear. That just really stuck with me. Any time I am in a tough game, I think about that.”
Hoosick Falls definitely engaged in a difficult contest facing Greenwich and Boisvert’s performance proved to be the difference.
