SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation’s 2023 Historic Homes Tour returns from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13, and offers visitors the rare opportunity to tour private homes in the city’s East Side neighborhood.
The tour, the foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, will make several stops along Circular Street to visit three private residences, a condominium in the Stone Abbey and Circular Manor Bed & Breakfast, along with two private residences on Union Avenue. Foundation board member Dorothy Rogers-Bullis, owner of drb Business Interiors, will also open doors to her studio and office space at 153 Regent St. The site was originally constructed for the Young Women’s Industrial Club, the predecessor institution of Skidmore College.
Attendees will also have the chance to see a “rehabilitation-in-progress” at the 1851 Alexander A. Patterson House at 65 Phila St. The Preservation Foundation purchased the blighted Italianate structure in 2021 and intends to sell the property after it completes environmental remediation, structural repairs and and extensive exterior rehabilitation.
“I’m excited that this year’s tour will feature a variety of different homes and buildings that showcase Saratoga Springs’ architecture and history of the people who lived in them,” executive director Samantha Bosshart said. “I’m particularly thrilled that the ‘rehabilitation-in-progress’ will be the 1851 Alexander A. Patterson House at 65 Phila St., our current project.”
In addition to the tour, the foundation is hosting two educational programs: The Breakfast & Buildings program “From Pompeii to Today” at 9 a.m. with Carol Godette at Death Wish Coffee, 260 Broadway and Lunch & Learn: “Eliza Jumel: The Story of a Successful Woman” at noon with Charlie Kuenzel at Caffe Lena, 47 Phila St.
