STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Weapons were found at the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin at Mount Loretto near South Richmond High School in Pleasant Plains on Tuesday morning, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
Police responded to the school at 6581 Hylan Blvd. on Tuesday morning, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD.
The weapons were “found off school property,” said a source with the city Department of Education (DOE), who referred the Advance/SILive.com to the NYPD for more information.
“Every school’s leadership coordinates closely with NYPD regarding any potential school-related safety concerns,” said the DOE source.
School Safety agents were conducting a perimeter search behind the high school when a gray firearm and a knife with a four-inch steel blade and black handle were found inside a black bag on top of the grass, according to the source.
The investigation continues and no arrests have been made.
