Syracuse, N.Y. — A third Syracuse football player has been named one of the Top 10 returning at his position by Pro Football Focus.
Marlowe Wax landed No. 8 on the list of linebackers back for 2023, joining three other ACC peers at LB: Clemson’s Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (No. 2), University of North Carolina’s Cedric Gray (No. 5) and Clemson’s Barrett Carter (No. 6).
Orange quarterback Garrett Shrader and tight end Oronde Gadsden each landed in the Top 10 of their positions. PFF has been releasing the lists periodically over the past couple weeks.
Wax led Syracuse in tackles last year, finishing the season with 91 total. The next closest was Mikel Jones, who finished with 84. Wax also had 4.5 sacks, seven quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
PFF gave Wax a 78.6% overall grade. He received a 79.5% pass rush grade and a 78.2% run defense grade.
Wax missed the spring season with an undisclosed injury. He is expected to be 100% by fall camp. The fourth-year player has already been voted a captain for the 2023 season.
